19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of that year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on court had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
